Supernatural Creator 2
Posted by Bobby Solomon • September 2, 2010 • Video
What is it about 8-bit graphics that get me feeling so nostalgic? I guess it’s because I started playing video games on an Atari 2600 and then moved onto a Nintemdi after that, but there’s something oddly satisfying about someone recreating that same experience even if it is 20 years later.
Although, I doubt anyone ever played a game like this one before. This short video titled Supernatural Creator 2 is like the Nintendo version of the beginning of the Christian creation story. 7 days, 7 levels! I like when God does a guitar solo after beating a level.

Brett Albert
Posted by Alex Dent • September 2, 2010 • Architecture & Video
I’m excited to share with you a video made by an extremely talented friend of mine, Brett Albert. Brett and I met at a pizza party six years ago as undergraduate architecture students and although he stole the last piece of cheese pizza as I was reaching for it, we became friends. He has no memory of this and insists that we met at a Zoo.
Brett recently graduated with a Master’s degree from Harvard and his video sets snippets of serious coursework to music intended for… a slightly different demographic. The result is probably the best use of a Ke$ha song you’re likely to see today. But even without the music, Brett’s work stands out because of his ability to critically conceive and develop projects (projects that are usually rendered in some pretty fabulous colors). It also doesn’t hurt that he tends to work insanely hard, forsaking friends and sleep alike to squeeze additional juice out of his brain or muscles and into his projects.
With this video, we get to drink that juice… and it tastes a lot better than a cold piece of pizza.

Toko

Toko is a Dutch design agency now based in Australia who are doing some rather great work. Toko is made up of Eva Dijkstra and Michael Lugmayr, who together in all kinds of disciplines and their portfolio shows it. I’ve grabbed my two favorite pieces, the top one being a poster for a graphic design festival in Breda, The Netherlands which has some amazing color combinations that totally grabbed my attention. The second one is a photo that was commissioned for Kalina Magazine, run by Mr. Noah Kalina, that was so fun and surreal it was a must post. Definitely browse the rest of their portfolio for more beautiful work.

Takayoshi Mizuki
Posted by Bobby Solomon • September 1, 2010 • Art

I ran across these old school ultra monster spreads over on Pink Tentacle yesterday and thought they were too fun not to post. They were painted by a man named Takayoshi Mizuki who seems to have painted about a million of these spreads are related to Ultraman. I think what I love most are the colors of each of these. I mean, the colors and how ridiculous each one of them really are. There’s even a spread with a Gamera looking creature riding a tank which is firing it’s canon, too cool.

The New iPad Nano with Touchscreen
Posted by Bobby Solomon • September 1, 2010 • Apple & Design

Earlier today Apple announced another batch of revised goodies and of course I ate every second up. But I think my favorite part of all the announcements were these new iPod Nanos which I’ve been calling “iPad” Nanos in my head all day. These little beauties now feature 1.5″ touch screen displays which feature 4 little icons on each screen as well as paging to support more icons and apps. The little guy even has an FM tuner for all these hippies that still want to listen to the radio, though it might be nice to tune into KCRW as I ride my bike to work. I’ve already pre-ordered mine in black, I’m pretty excited to play with it.
Fast Company has also pointed out that we now have a real Dick Tracy watch.
