I saw a special screening of this movie in Pasadena a couple months ago. It was one of the worst movies I had ever seen, extremely disapointed. I am a fan of Spike Jones, and I think this movie has potential. But this movie really needs help.

@ Garrett
I was totally unaware. I remember the story as a child, and only did a quick search to find out the publish date. Damn you google for placing advertising of your book store at the top of the hit list!

Oh no! I hate it when they do that. Like "The Golden Compass" - there was so much they could have taken from that book and put into an elegant, thought provoking film. Instead, they made a shitty CGI-fueled children's film that ultimately failed to meet domestic box office expectations.

Comparing it Pan's Labyrinth is a good call. That was a really dark fairy tale that was definitely not for kids.

What an eloquently written letter, and right on point. If the movie execs who want to make money think that by remaking it for children they will net more money, they are sorely mistaken. This movie should be marketed towards the 20 somethings and older (as it is currently). WTWTA is really the only book I remember from my childhood (pre teens). And being released in the late 80's it is something most of my peers and those a bit older than me remember. If anything I hope Spike Jonez says 'fuck you, this is how i envisioned this' and will continue on the project independently. Think about the other 'dark' fairy tales that have come out in recent years such as Pan's Labyrinth. My fingers are crossed.
