Memorial Day
May 26, 2008 // Life

Today in the US it’s Memorial Day, and because of our current “war” that’s going on, I thought I’d post these photos I found on DIGG. I read the captions and totally started to cry, I couldn’t help it. I’m very fortunate and haven’t lost anyone that I’ve known to this ridiculous sham we’re calling a “war”, and seeing these photos makes me entirely too upset. Fuck this war, fuck George Bush, fuck everyone involved in getting us into this ludicrous situation. I just hope we can clean up this mess we’ve made so more innocent people, and I mean everyone involved including the Iraqis, and everyone else serving abroad, don’t have to lose their lives in vain.
I know this isn’t very eloquently written or well thought out, but it’s what spilled out of me at the moment.
Bobby

I'd definitely say that Sunshine is way better than Slumdog Millionaire, though Danny Boyle is amazing all around.

I have a friend that comes home from Afghanistan tomorrow at 6:20 PM. He’s only going to be home for 3 weeks and in that whole period I will not mention one single time that I oppose the war he’s participating in. That is saved for later, because I would hate myself for hugging the coffin instead of him and know my last words were filled with anger.
Bobby, don’t neglect the fact that you were moved by the pictures above. You would have to be exceptionally cold-hearted if it didn’t mean anything to you. Or be President of the USA.

here’s another tear-jerking story, worth the read: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24805978/.

My god, that is heart-wrenching. We aren’t as bombarded here with all of it, for one thing our military has refused to do anything except peace-keeping (which is not to say there aren’t NZers there, but they aren’t under the NZ Army, I believe), but this…
It’s awful, and I wish it would stop, so these kinds of things wouldn’t happen to these men and women and their families.

I know it wasn’t the same affect on me as it was the guy who posted those pictures on DIGG, but I was extremely saddened by those photos. Thank you for showing us these so that we could be reminded of what yesterday was all about—people who fight for us.
