Let The Right One In
December 6, 2008 // Films

A few weeks ago I saw Let The Right One In, a Swedish vampire film about a little boy named Oskar who ends up befriending a little girl named Eli (pronounced Ill-ee) that moves next door to him, who also happens to be a vampire. The story follows their growing fondness for each other, as well as how they start to change because of their friendship.
I absolutely adored this movie, it was so well done. The cinematography was absolutely amazing, with tons of beautiful blues and whites combined with deep yellows and reds. The pacing of the story was also really great, with lots of little twists and turns that kept the story moving and really interesting. There are some kinda cheesy parts, but I enjoyed those as well, like the movie didn’t take itself too seriously.
Overall I would say this is hands down the best vampire movie of the year, fuck Twilight and it’s teeny bopper shit, haha… If you get a chance to see this then do it, don’t waste the opportunity. Also check out the trailer under the cut, as well as a preview of the movie and an interview with the director Tomas Alfredson.

I just read all the books of John Aijvide Lindqvist (on whos novel the movie is based on) and have to say that he’s by far the best horror writer at the moment. He dares to go were not many other writers go. The end of “Hantering av ododa” (roughly translated as “Treatment Of Undead”), almost made me cry. I have been waiting to see this movie and it’s cool hear that it is good.

I had the pleasure of watching Let the Right One in this weekend, and I loved every minute of it.
Unfortunately I also had to endure watching Twilight as well…
Let the Right One in, is the only good vampire movie out presently because it is done right! And thank GOD I’m not the only one who sees Twilight this way.. for a second I thought I was insane because EVERYONE around me seems to love it.

I’ve read the book first before watching the film version and I find that to be able to enjoy the movie, I should have avoided reading the book since a lot of the content in the book was missing. But I do agree with the director about removing one of the major stories in the film and I feel the same way when I was reading it that it was a hard subject to film.
I am also grateful that he took another direction and focused on the relationship of Oskar and Eli but I don’t know if some viewers might be confused on a major part of the plot which was only glimpse in the movie but I am not going to spoil from your readers.
Anyway, I both enjoyed the film and the book but there is a nagging feeling of what might I have felt if I didn’t read the book first.
