Banksy Went To Africa…?
July 14, 2009 // Art

I came across this interesting discussion on Flickr about the fact that Banksy had been creating pieces throughout Africa. While he had one well publicized trip to the West Bank, I don’t think anyone had realized that he did pieces in parts of Africa until his recent exhibition at the Bristol Museum showed a bulletin board in his recreated studio with photos of his trip. The photos are also on his site currently, which is where I snagged the ones above and under the cut.
Flickr user Olly C. states about the top photo,
“I’ve seen this one in the flesh. Its in the suburbs of Bamako in Mali, West Africa. Banksy was there about 4-5 months ago. Sadly this has been partially painted over, Peaches Geldoff is no more and somebody has added a flower to the collection tin. There’s also a few local tags scribbled on the same wall.
There are a handful in Mali, stretching from Bamako to Timbuktu. Their locations are still unpublicised as far as I can tell.”
For some reason I’m reminded of the phrase, “If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?”
Does anyone know anymore about this trip? Did I totally miss out on this somehow? If you have any more information or any other photos shoot me en email.
More photos under the cut.

It’s when Banksy does stuff like this that I like him best, not so much the gallery exhibitions.

Hello !
Sorry to disturb the discussion, but the Banksy paintings curiously look like a well-known french artist called Ernest Pignon Ernest.
You will find more information on these websites :

Jean (a french guy who also really like banksy’s work)
