Stephane Halleux
October 27, 2009 // Art + Design + Technology

What do you get when you mix the older films of Jean-Pierre Jeunet with the gothic creativity of Tim Burton? I think it would roughly add up to the amazing sculptures of Stephane Halleux. These amazing sculptures are crafted from bits of leather and all kinds of off found objects, things that from another time that have been put together to create these little beauties. It’s crazy how much attention and detail go into these, and they all look they should be characters in some kind of crazy steampunk, stop-motion movie set in a Triplet of Bellesville universe.
Definitely take 10 minutes to go through all of the images and be prepared to wipe the drool off of your keyboard. I would kill to own one of these!

They remind me of the giant marionettes used by France’s Royal de Luxe street theatre company. Have you seen pics of their recent performance in Germany? It’s absolutely mind-blowing.

Love at first sight!
They could also be characters in an Edward Gorey story! I want them too!

wow, just wow.
i most definitely want to see those things animated.
i’ve seen plenty of found object sculptures by now, but the addition of sewn leather really makes those unique…

I was first introduced to Steampunk in the PC game “ARCANUM”. I loved it then and find myself searching for more. Is any of this stuff a possible reality?

Frankly, these creations are Brilliant! As a robot builder myself, i was taught it must serve practical purposes. It’s nice to remember some people create for viewing pleasures. These are pure inspiration for generations. Keep up the good work!
