Photos from the Michael, Kevin & Geoff Exhibit
November 9, 2009 // Art + Design + Illustration + Los Angeles

Saturday night I popped over to the opening of the Michael, Kevin & Geoff exhibit at HVW8, a small gallery right off of Melrose Blvd. The show featured the work of Michael Leon, Kevin Lyons and Geoff McFetridge, an incredible line-up of extremely talented dudes. The show overall was pretty compact but I saw some pretty cool work.
I was able to chat with Geoff for a bit and asked him about his new work.

I asked him about the piece above, not sure what it was. He explained that he wanted to create some abstract pieces, though admitted that abstraction tends to be a bit too “high-falutin,” as he said. Agreed. He then told me that the piece was the back of a guys head who was wearing a baseball hat with a snap back. I looked again, and sure enough, that’s exactly what it was and what it looked like. I commented that they looked like screenprints but he said that they were paintings made to look like screenprints. That Geoff McFetridge is a tricky one.

I asked him about the Dutch shoe above and he simply admitted that he enjoyed the shape, and that whoever designed it should definitely get major props. We decided that the curl at the end of the toe is what makes it so amazing.
I didn’t get to talk to the other guys, Kevin was sitting at a table selling prints (I think?) and then I think Michael take off with Steven Harrington, who was wearing an awesome poncho. Overall it was a great show with lots of fun new work from three greats.
