How Much Data Does The U.S. Consume in One Day?

3.6 Zettabytes.
I know, I’d never heard of a zettabyte before either, but it’s a real thing. A zettabyte is equal to 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes, or roughly 16 average sized hard drives for every man, woman and child in the United States. This is based on information from research done by the University of California San Diego which broke down the information by categories including computer interaction, television, reading, radio, talking on the phone and miscellaneous.
I definitely don’t fit this mold at all considering I spend more like 10-12 hours in front of a computer, I don’t have cable television and I hardly ever listen to the radio. Does this fit your personal lifestyle?
I’d also like to point out that the cute illustration was done by Rob Vargas, nice job sir.

Cool looking graphic but I doubt most people spend 5 hours a day listening to the internet. Also “PC” is located in other, isn’t that the same as computer interaction?

@Drew – When I’m at my computer I always have iTunes going, so I’d have 10-12 hours of listening. And as for “PC” they mean playing computer games, but yeah, I see what you’re saying.

@Bobby – Whoops meant that to read “I doubt most people spend 5 hours a day listening to the RADIO.”
I was just thinking, if we we’re able to measure the amount of data our senses process within a day with some sort of equipment and scale, it would have to be off the charts. We’re super computers.
