Last week we took a look into the future, at the new music coming out in 2010. This week we’re going back to the 90’s. I’ve put together a collection of my favorite one-hit wonders from the 90’s, the things that songs that never really propelled bands to stardom but found a tender a place in my heart. I tried to pick the more obscure bands and songs, so hopefully this brings back some memories for you.

For the cover art I tried to recreate the Saved By The Bell logo with a Kitsune Noir spin. I hand drew the type and then traced it all out in (my enemy) Illustrator then put it all together in Photoshop. It’s insane just how janky that title is. I know it looks like I did a shitty job but go look at the original and you’ll see just how horribly designed it is.

  1. The last song reminds me of the great expectations movie. I think it was on the soundtrack. Visually stunning but wonky on it’s adherence to the source material. Francesco Clemente’s work were probably the most memorable part of the film.

  3. What a memories brings me that show, the art totally nails it. This mixcast it’s probably mi favorite so far, and thats only ’cause Scott Weilands is on it, Stone Temple Pilots were probably my favorite band of the 90’s

  9. This is also my favorite mixcast, maybe second only to the Christmas one. The only weird thing is hearing Soul Coughing described as one hit wonders.

  15. Whoa man. This is crazy. I had the mix going, and all the sudden my BF started rambling about his early awkward teenage years. Job WELL done, Man. I have to say, I love your mixes, but this is far most emotionally involved I’ve ever felt by listening… not entirely sure it’s all good either, but I appreciate it for what it has accomplished. And honestly, I found 90s music a let down even during the 90s… but ya know… this mix has been actually a lot of fun.

    I totally hear you on Illustrator too. Well, until I sat down with one of those books and learned it. I still find myself starting projects in Photoshop though. Its just so much quicker for a lot of things.
