New Magnetic Fields Song, California Girls
Posted: December 12, 2007 // Music

I was listening to KCRW yesterday morning when a loud, reverberating song came on the radio. It sounded familiar, but I couldn’t put my finger on who it was. It turned out to be a new song from The Magnetic Fields called California Girls, an Anti-Beach Boys-ian ditty about how trashy the girls around here really are. The song reminds me much more of 69 Love Songs of Holiday, and nothing at all like I, which is kind of disappointing because I was a huge fan of the last album.
Give the song a listen if you’re a fan, it’s really pretty good.

P.S. What’s up with the HORRIBLE album artwork for Distortion? Stephin, give me a call, we’ll work out something much less… vomit inducing.

this rocks. the guitar has a little JAMC wall of sound to it too.
the album artwork is bad i agree

wow. very good. anyone else see Stephen Merritt’s contribution to the Project Song at NPR’s All Songs Considered. It is a great look into the creative process. And the song turns out good too.
