I'd totally have to disagree on that one. I feel like Chris Walla is the one who screws it all up! I hated what he did with Nada Surf, and I thought his solo album was really weak. I know he did Death Cab's old stuff as well, I just want to blame him anyway.

Give me a Modest Mouse album produced by Chris Walla and I'd be happy forever.

Some of the best Death Cab for Cutie elements ( like the rolling 'guess' in the beginning of Your New Twin Sized Bed ) no doubt come from him.

i'm one of the few who seem to love the first single (like you, my wife agrees the vocals don't fit.) but othewise i think i agree with everything you've stated here. cath is really catchy and i find myself immediately going to that track a lot.

The new DCFC album is a departure from their last album, that's for sure. I actually feel more of a connection to this album than I did to Plans. Granted nothing will ever beat old death cab, and old death cab is much much different, Something about airplanes, the photo album, YCPTSWC, each of those albums are awesome.

I had to listen through this album twice till I realized it was actually half way decent though. It takes some getting used to; so give it some time.
