I think it had to do with him being the same age as me at the time and just commanding the stage. At any rate...I agree the potential for this video is enormous and it didn't totally live up to it...none the less it was rad. Someone with some motion tracking knowledge and a couple of animation artists could turn this concept into something 'OUT OF THIS WORLD!'
