+Toy Story: The Vladmaster

I used to have a View-Master when I was a little kid. I remember the idea of those plastic binoculars being better than the images inside. I always thought it would make a better camera than a picture viewer.
Anyway, the link above is to a rad article about a woman calls herself ‘Vladmir’, who takes the classic kids toy and turns it into a fine art project.
It’s a really good idea, actually. I like that it takes this really simple object and makes it a little more special.

This got me thinking about how the View-Master could be used as an awesome promotional tool, especially for a photographer.

How cool would it be to send your photos to art buyers, magazines and the such, in a View-Master! You could make a custom box for it, maybe silk screen the little round discs… all sorts of options! I’m guessing people have done this before, but I still think it would be so much fun. The picture above is my idea, although, I’d want a purple handle for mine!

Black Cloud advertisement by Ogilvy Beijing. The picture above is an ad for WWF’s 20 ways to 20% campaign running in China. It encourages and informs people that even the smallest change helps some, especially in a country with over 1.3 billion people.
I love the entire execution of this. Visually showing how much your car pollutes per day makes it all the stronger, but the black cloud is kind of cute at the same time!
