Makr Wallets
June 30, 2008 | Categories: • Accessories / Clothing / Design

I guess it’s been a few years now, by Makr is finally back supplying the world with beautiful laser engraved wallets once again. Makr is the brain child of Jason Gregory, who’s first line of wallets were something I always drooled over, but sadly never dropped the cash on. Since then I’ve been patiently waiting for him to release a new collection, and he definitely hasn’t disappointed. There are more styles this time around, in even more patterns, with even more types of leather. It’s almost overwhelming looking through everything offered, I totally felt like a kid in a candy shop!
My personal favorites are the Herringbone in brown, the Herringbone in russet, and the Minimal in ox blood. It’s weird, usually I’d go for the black wallets, but I love the colors and the textures of the brown wallets a lot more, the ox blood is particularly sexy. The wallets cost anywhere from $75 to $150 depending upon the style. My new mantra is to buy something that will last me longer, even though it may cost more, and I could definitely see one of these puppies standing up to the test of time.
Head over to the site and check out the rest of the styles, just don’t drool on your keyboard.
Thanks to Josh Spear for the heads up!

TRKFLD
June 9, 2008 | Categories: • Accessories / Design

Reading through the newest issue of GOOD Magazine I spotted an ad for TRKFLD bags and I was instantly curious. The logo has sort of a retro/contemporary feel, not to mention that the bag was pretty cool looking as well. I popped over to their website and they’re definitely not fooling around, sporting 19 different styles of bags with multiple colorways and 5 different accessories as well. Everything is made out of Sunbrella fabric, which is “100% solution-dyed acrylic” and is made to be “fade resistant, water repellent and breathable.” Not bad for a company that started only a few months back!
I posted pictures of my favorite bags up there. The first one that the guy holding is… the Bobby. If that’s not fate, I don’t really know what is. I’ve honestly been looking for a smaller bag to throw my camera and flash and misc. items into for a while, and this would be totally perfect. I definitely want to buy this bag, but I’m not really sure if I want the warm colors version or the cool version, so what do you guys think? What I do know, is that I hope the guy modeling the bag comes with it…
The other bag is called Mi, and to me looks sort of like an over-sized tennis racket bag without the handle, which I think is pretty rad. I also really like the horizontal stripes on the bag, especially the thick blue and white version. It’s so 80’s yuppie/nautical but with a twist, which is definitely starting to come back into style.
The bags run around $80 or so which isn’t bad at all, especially because they look like they’d last about 20 years. Definitely check out their site and see all the styles they have, I’m sure everyone could find something they like.

50 ways to Help the Planet
April 22, 2008 | Categories: • Accessories / Life

I wanted to post something in honor of Earth Day today, but I didn’t want to be preach-y, so I’ll just say that you should read Wire & Twine’s 50 Ways to Help the Planet. These are all probably things you’ve heard or known, but it can’t hurt to get a refresher course on what you can do to help. Since I’m moving into a new apartment I was thinking that I could get drying racks for my clothes, which would help the environment in a small way and save me 75 cents a pop.
I’d also suggest checking out NOTCOT’s insanely detailed list of reusable bags, if you can’t find a reusable bag you like there, you must be insane.

Dan Funderburgh for Gravis
April 2, 2008 | Categories: • Accessories / Clothing / Design

I was checking out Mr. Dan Funderburgh’s blog over on 12ozPROPHET and saw that he had a recent collaboration with Gravis that looks pretty rad. They covered a bunch of their bags (in male and female varities) with his geographical weather map pattern and they look absolutely awesome. As much as I want to be sick of camo-type patterns, this looks totally fresh and amazing. Head over to Gravis to check out all the different styles, lots of great stuff to choose from. Now I just need a reason to buy more luggage…

Fun Solitary Arts Stuff
February 26, 2008 | Categories: • Accessories / Art / Design

I woke up this morning really unsure about what I was going to post about today. I usually have lists both written down and in my head, but I wasn’t really feeling it. That was until the FedEx guy came by and dropped off TWO packages for me, both filled with awesome, awesome stuff. Let me just say that I don’t get a lot of free shit coming to me every day, nothing of the sort. I just don’t want anyone thinking that I’m somehow rolling around in piles of free stuff…
The first package was from Yong-Ki over at Solitary Arts who used some of my photos from Geoff McFetridge’s new show on their blog. For those who don’t know, Solitary Arts is a skateboard company run by Yong-Ki and Geoff. Well Yong-Ki was nice enough to send over some pins, some stickers, and a really big, awesome, McFetridge drawn Solitary Arts poster. This just increases the massive number of pieces of art that I need to get framed! The pins are rad, which feature the little furry man and have the SA logo as well. The stickers have those designs as well as round ones that look their Black Egg wheels. Really fun stuff. I also got the most AMAZING sticker ever, which I actually took a picture of at Geoff’s show. I wanted some of this so badly, and now I’m going to put it all over my car windows, haha…. Click here for the mega sized view of it.
You can pick up the stickers and pins from the Solitary Arts Mini Skate Shop, but the poster is a one of a kind, hand silk screened just for me… that might last part might not be true. I have no idea about the sticker, maybe if you buy something or ask nicely they’ll send you a chunk?
Check out more photos of everything under the cut.
Keep reading Fun Solitary Arts Stuff…
Nooka “Creatures of the Night” Camo Watches
January 29, 2008 | Categories: • Accessories / Clothing / Design

Nooka is releasing a new series of camo pattern watches entitled “Creatures of the Night“, which features everyone’s favorite urban critters. Making appearances are pigeons, rats, mice, bats, and cats, all splashed together into one crazy pattern. My favorite colorway is the multicolored one on the left, and the one in the middle is cool too, but I’m definitely not hot on the right one. It looks like a little kids watch.
The watch should be out sometime this month, and go for around $250.

Nixon’s Winter ‘08 Collections
January 28, 2008 | Categories: • Accessories / Clothing / Design

Nixon’s new winter collections definitely don’t disappoint as they continue to build upon they’re already strong base of products. They’ve got 5 new collections, one of which I’ve posted about previously. There’s the Cambrdige collection (for men & women) which is a fresh take on old, collegiate style, Prowler for men, which blends houndstooth with a Ferrari color palette, and Mod Pop for women, a British inspired colelction full of strong lines and a lot of purple.
A couple of my favorite pieces are the wallets above. When I look at them, I think they look ’smart’, something you would be complimented about at the bank. I really like how they’re putting a lot more textures into everything they make. It makes their products feel like they’re for people of all ages.

Baggu Reusable Bags
December 18, 2007 | Categories: • Accessories / Design / Life

On my way into work this morning I stopped by Trader Joe’s to buy some food for breakfast and lunch. On my way out, for some reason, I got kind of a guilty feeling in the pit of my stomach, as I walked to my car with a paper bag filled only with bananas, a quart of milk, and a mini pizza. I realized that I didn’t really need this paper bag, I only had three things, it was kind of a waste. I remembered Jean over at Notcot featuring a bunch of really cool reusable bags, as she went slightly crazy finding all of the coolest bags in the world. I skimmed through them all, and I decided that my favorite are definitely the ones made by Baggu.
Baggu was created by a mother and daughter team who were looking for an alternative to disposable bags, that would work for either a city or suburban lifestyle. The bags themselves are made of nylon, and can support 25 lbs. each. What I like about them is that they aren’t girly, they come in 13 different colors, and are only $8 a piece, though you get discounts the larger the quantity you order. I think I’m going to get the 3 pack and try them out, so I’ll let everyone know how they do.

Carga Bags
November 6, 2007 | Categories: • Accessories / Design

I saw these awesome Carga bags and immediately thought to myself, “I need to post these before Jean at Notcot does!” Because, she finds amazing things like this, and I always get jealous. So take that Jean! haha…
Carga is the brainchild of designer Mauro Bianucci, who made the first bag for himself, but then it caught on after one of his clients wanted to order some. The bags are put together by hand in Buenos Aires using construction techniques in unexpected ways. The bags are made of industrial felt, but together with aluminum rivets and a leather strap.
The only downside of these bags is the price, which is a whopping $175, and that’s for the smallest one. But you are paying for something that’s handcrafted, and sure as hell looks like it’s going to last quite a while.

TSHIRT STORE
October 14, 2007 | Categories: • Accessories / • T-shirts / Blogs / Clothing / Design / Illustration

TSHIRT STORE is exactly what is sounds like, a store that sells t-shirts. The company was founded in 2004 by a group of people longing to make high quality t-shirts that were made under their watchful eyes. That means no outsourcing, no wholesale, just a good fit with great designs that can constantly be updated. Think of them as a cross between American Apparel and Threadless, and you know, Swedish.
They have some really great designs online, the three above were my personal favorites. But I have a feeling after seeing Viktor’s post on his blog Issue that they have even more cool designs in their physical stores. As of now I think they have two stores, but they’re going to be opening a store in the International Airport Kastrup in Copenhagen a little later this year. So if you’re ever flying through, be sure to stop and pick up something.
