SBTG x Lazy present The Paramount Dunk
June 16, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Clothing

Here’s another great example of what I was talking about yesterday, simple but awesome shoes. Reading about these over on High Snobiety you definitely get the sense that someone busted their ass on creating these.
First off, the body of the sneaker is pretty much all decked out in selvage denim, from the black denim to the “Gucci” denim that surrounds the bottom. The reason for the selvage denim is that “the edge can’t fray like lower grade denims that have separate wefts which leave an open edge that must be stitched.” See what I mean about someone going nuts on this shoe? Finally the shoe is trimmed out with a snakeskin swoosh, which I think is pretty damn hot. I also love the (real/faux?) snakeskin lace guard thing-y, that’s a nice touch as well.
The images you see above are the pre-production model, it’s a one-of-a-kind, but they are going forward with production on this shoe, hopefully the final model stays true to the original. Supposedly it’s going to be released soon-ish through Royalefam, so keep an eye out.

Graph Paper Vans and Halftone Sandals
June 15, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Clothing

I’m only 25 but a lot of the time I feel like an old man. Slowly I’ve started to buy fewer graphic tees and have tried to filter in more collared shirts, basic patterns, and thin stripes. These changes also extend to my footwear as well, as I no longer wear the same black slip-on Vans day in and day out. It kind of surprises me that I don’t talk about fashion on here more, considering how I think about it all the time. So I thought I’d share a couple of recent purchases on here that I’ve been in love with.
First off is my pair of graph paper Vans. I actually bought these at this great little boutique in my hometown of Roseville called Heritage (not to be confused with the Forever 21 offshoot). I love that their minimal but still have that wonderful pattern on them. The black lines also takes away some of the irony of it being graph paper pattern, they do come in a traditional blue pattern as well. They’re also only two weeks old, but I really hate bright white shoes, so I’ve been a bit with rough with them so that they look well-loved now. The best part of these is that they were only $45, which is pretty unbeatable. I’m a firm believer in not having to spend a lot of money to look good.
Which brings me to my next purchase, the halftone sandals you see above which I picked up from H&M for a whopping $6! I love these because they’re almost a check pattern, but they’re halftoned as well. So very simple but still really fun. I’m sure the print will rub off by the summer, but for $6, who cares?

TOMS Summer Collection
June 13, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Clothing

I’ve been meaning to buy a pair of TOMS for about a year now, I think they’d make such awesome summer shoes, yet I keep forgetting. Then I got an email yesterday announcing that they have some web exclusive shoes for this summer only, reminding me yet again that I still don’t have. But I really like these new ones they’ve released, the colors are really awesome… if you’re a girl. As a boy I don’t think I could ever try pull off a pair of striped pair of alpargatas, nor would I ever try. I really like the salmon colored ones, the canary ones, and the blue and white striped ones.
As always, when you buy a pair of TOMS, they give a pair away to a child in need, so you’ll look hot this summer and help someone out at the same time.

Concepts x Nike SB Lobster Dunk Low
June 2, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Clothing / Design

No matter how ridiculous an idea may be, as long as it’s thought through well enough it can turn out really amazing. Take for example Nike SB’s recent collaboration with Concepts, which could have been absolutely stupid, but in my opinion turned out amazing. What Concepts did was take the Dunk Low and Lobster-ize it, decking out the leather in shades of orange-y reds, putting a table cloth pattern inside the shoe, and even throwing some rubber bands on the toes!
The shoes even come in a wooden box, much like a lobster trap, and come with a few t-shirts, some lobster crackers, and even an extra pair of butter yellow laces. I think they executed this entire set-up flawlessly, everything works together and the shoes look so rad! As far as I can tell they’re only available through the Concepts store in Cambridge, MA, so if you’re looking to snag a pair you might want to shoot them an email or give them a call, if they’re even in stock still.

Eley Kishimoto Flash Pattern Sneakers
May 20, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Clothing

Started in the early 90’s, Eley Kishimoto is the duo of Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto, a couple of really creative fashion designers who’ve worked with some of the biggest names out there. They also created a fantastic little print called Flash, which adorns the shoes you see above. Their form is based after Chuck Taylor’s giving them a classic look but the all over Flash print makes these totally unique without being over the top.
They’re available at A.P.C.’s online shop for $140 BUT the whole site is in Japanese and I doubt they’d ship outside of Japan. I wonder if the store here in LA has these? Also be sure to check out Eley Kishimoto’s blog which even features some photos of Sebastian Tellier playing live.

Lemon Frost Nike Blaze Hi’s
May 4, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Clothing

The shoes above are a new Lemon Fresh colorway of their awesome Blazer Hi model, which I have to say I’m really digging these. I don’t think I could ever wear these, I’d try to match my shirt to them and look like a giant popsicle. But I could totally imagine someone who really knows what they’re doing with clothes totally pulling these off. I love that the sides have that crazy gradient and the color of the laces totally finishes the whole thing off.
I believe you can get these at Hangtime online, but I checked their online store and they aren’t up yet, so check back often as I’m sure there are probably like 25 of these in existence.

Nike Vandal High Supreme
April 11, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Clothing

I’ve subconsciously wanted a pair of high tops for a while, but I always think I’ll look lame in them. They also usually come in insane colorways and styles, and I prefer to wear black vans. But I could see myself looking really cool wearing a pair of these NIke Vandal High Supremes.
What I really like is that the shoe doesn’t look black, it’s almost shades of black and blue. And what it lacks in vibrant colors it makes up for in the ability to see all the details and stitches. Or maybe that’s just the sign of a good product shot, haha… The strap doesn’t even bother me, I think those colors go rad with the body of the shoe. Overall it’s a pretty damn slick looking shoe, which of course is around $170 and is only available in Japan. Awesome.

Kenji Nakayama for Converse (Product) Red
April 2, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Clothing

It’s been a while since I’ve spotted a pair of shoes I really like, but when I came across the Kenji Nakayama designed high tops I did a double take. Kenji created the shoe for Converse’s (PRODUCT) RED campaign, which I’m honestly not a huge fan of, considering that only “10% of the net wholesale price” goes to fighting AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. How much would that even be per shoe, like three or four dollars?!
Anyhow, the design of the shoe has a red stripe around the bottom which is supposed to be a timeline, and all of the vertical lines represent a moment in time. Overall it’s supposed to represent all the tiny moments that make up our lives. I think the shoe is really rad looking, I especially love the colors, and all of those vertical lines are absolutely beautiful. The other cool part is that the shoe is only $56.99, and you can buy it in their online store and have it shipped directly to you. Also be sure to check out all of the other designs as well, as a part of their 1HUND(RED) Project.

Commonwealth x Eames x DC Shoes
March 7, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Art / Design

File this under “Holy Crap” and “How did no one think of this sooner?!?”. Commonwealth, one of the better online “urban” boutiques has teamed with DC Shoes and fabric makers Maharam to create an Eames patterned shoe called Gatsby. How is this show just being made? Did no one think to put this classic pattern on a shoe? I certainly didn’t, but I don’t make shoes. These bad boys are going to set you back $140, which isn’t too bad, but it’s definitely nearing the price of not worth it.
What else could be done like this? Marimekko patterned slip ons? Splashes of Tjord Boonte patterns all over some high top Chuck’s? I think there could be a crazy market for something like this. Vans? Converse? You listening to this? Hurry up and get us some rad designer shoes(but don’t be assholes and make them like $200).

Nike’s Tiffany Dunk SB Tribute
January 30, 2008 | Categories: • Shoes / Clothing

Two years ago Nike SB released the Tiffany Dunk SB, the creation of Nickavelli over at Diamond Supply Co. The shoe featured the signature Tiffany blue, and crocodile skin, making it one of the hottest shoes of that year.
Now Nike is releasing a variation on the original and calling ti a “tribute”. Thankfully it’s pretty sick, coming in all black leather, a black corc skin swoosh, and a white sole with a black tip. On the inside is a wood grain patter which looks teal, but I think it would have been better to use the Tiffany blue again. Either way it’s a pretty damn slick shoe. This is totally my style, sharp looking, but low key.
This puppy should be out sometime in February, so keep an eye out.
