Jean Jullien

Funny story. I came across a link to the portfolio of Jean Jullien a few days ago which took me to a video about a boy with a paper arm who’s friends with a Chewbacca. I’m not really into weird art, so I closed it pretty fast after I opened it. Cut to today when I’m browsing typeish and come across some cute, cut out graphics. I start to explore the site and realize it’s the same, weird, boy-with-a-paper-arm site, but I decide to look around anyway.

It turns out he’s quite a talented guy, and an immensely talented illustrator. His style totally reminds me of Quentin Blake’s, who most people would know as the guy who illustrated most of Roald Dahl’s books. The crazy part is that these images are from an ongoing visual diary he keeps in a moleskine.

Be sure to visit his site and check out all of his odd projects. When you look at all the stuff he’s doing, you realize just how creative this guy is.

Stefan Marx is a German illustrator who has a really great online portfolio. His work consists mostly of black and white line drawings, which are pretty detailed and cute, you could say. His mascot is a a smiling house, which he’s created giant sculptures of. He also makes some pretty rad t-shirts as well, which you can find over at The Lousy Livincompany.

Also, I stole this from somebody, but I can’t remember who it was, so my apologies to them for my bad memory.

I <3 T-Shirts & Sneakers by Mark the Cobrasnake

I picked up this little booklet from Urban Outfitters a couple weekends and thought it was kind of cool. Basically they hired Mark the Cobrasnake to shoot a bunch of shirts and sneakers in his traditional, impromptu style, and bound it all together into this little booklet. It’s not quite as exciting as his other photos because it’s filled with mostly product shots, and what makes his photos are the people who are in them. But it’s still a well put together catalog filled with some rad clothes.

The Quiet Life 10th Anniversary T-shirts

In honor of The Quiet Life’s 10th Anniversary, Andy and Jen have asked 10 of their favorite designers to design a t-shirt, which they’re now selling in their online store. The list is rather impressive, and goes to show you that it pays off to be doing the things they’ve been doing for 10 years now. The artists contributing designs are Todd St. John (of HuGa), Evan Hecox, Ben Loiz, Katsuo Design, Andy Jenkins, Ryan Waller, Rick Myers, Florencio Zavala, Cody Hudson and Megan Whitmarsh (who can give Geoff McFetridge a run for his money when it comes to yeti drawings).

The shirts all come in two different colorways, and go for $25 and $30, depending upon how fancy you want your t-shirt material.

Neil Doshi Designed T-shirt at Threadless

I signed up for Threadless’ newsletter about a month ago, and usually when I browse through the new entries, I’m not too impressed. But today’s featured a new Threadless Select Tee (basically a real designer they’ve asked to design a tee) by Neil Doshi called The Future Is Feeling.

I really liked his design a lot, so I checked out his personal site called ‘Magic Funtimes‘, and his work is pretty great. Tons of patterns and details all over the place, as well as lots of bright colors. Pop over and say hi.

Tet T-shirt for Supreme

I’ve never really been a fan of Supreme, the New York based skate brand. When I walk into their store on Fairfax, I’m even less thrilled because usually no one will give you the time of day. But I spotted this shirt on Hypebeast the other day, and well, I really like it a lot. The design is by Tet, better known as Tetsu Nishiyama. The graphic is a simple pencil drawing of Robin, yes, Batman’s sidekick, cruising on a skateboard. There’s just something about this I love!

The shirt should be out by the end of this month, and will probably be more than you’re willing to spend for it.

TSHIRT STORE

TSHIRT STORE is exactly what is sounds like, a store that sells t-shirts. The company was founded in 2004 by a group of people longing to make high quality t-shirts that were made under their watchful eyes. That means no outsourcing, no wholesale, just a good fit with great designs that can constantly be updated. Think of them as a cross between American Apparel and Threadless, and you know, Swedish.

They have some really great designs online, the three above were my personal favorites. But I have a feeling after seeing Viktor’s post on his blog Issue that they have even more cool designs in their physical stores. As of now I think they have two stores, but they’re going to be opening a store in the International Airport Kastrup in Copenhagen a little later this year. So if you’re ever flying through, be sure to stop and pick up something.

Solitary Arts

Solitary Arts is the collaboration between Yong-Ki Chang and Geoff Mcfettridge, a company who’s “single goal of creating things that are playful, useful, and beautiful, all in one.

So far they’ve created a line of t-shirts (above), as well as two skate decks, one of which is called Big Red, and is a red deck (duh) with a giant grip tape foot on the top of it. It also comes with LED’s on the back of it so people can see you at night! I don’t skate, but I’d certainly hang it on my wall… does that make me a poser? They’ve also made two sets of wheels, two sets of trucks, bearings, stickers, and pins.

Definitely something to keep your eye on. I really hope they do well so we can have more awesome Geoff-stuff!

Baby On Board T-shirt Found By The Sartorialist

Baby On Board T-shirt by Paul Frank

I have friend who has a slight obsession with trompe-l’œil, so I immediately thought of him when I saw this. The Sartorialist took this picture in Manhattan while he was shooting for Vogue Homme International. I think the photo is hysterical, and his framing of it is so great because it almost looks real!

Turns out the t-shirt is made by Paul Frank, which is called the Baby On Board Tee, haha. It’s only $24 over at Fred Flare!

‘God Save Stan Lee’ T-shirt

'God Save Stan Lee' T-shirt by Secret Headquarters

This might possibly the coolest, most clever t-shirt I’ve bought all year. Perhaps this entire decade!
The t-shirt was made by the fine folks over at Secret Headquarters, undoubtedly the finest comic shop in all of Los Angeles. Paying homage to the classic Sex Pistols graphic, the Queen has been kicked out by the King and grandfather of comic books.

This easily could have been made to look like shit. They could have tried using a ton of colors, or doing some sort of comic book looking font, but they didn’t. They stuck with a black shirt and tan colored ink, and made it just as rough and gritty as the original.

I’m not sure hwo many they have left of these, but I’m sure you could e-mail the awesome people over there and order one if you really want one… because I’m sure you do.

Check under the cut for a couple more pictures!
