Super Mario Bros. 2 with Drums

Growing up, I was a hardcore Super Mario Bros 2 fan. I wasn’t cool like all of the other kids who played Super Mario 3, I enjoyed the campyness of Mario 2. You got four character to choose from, the slot machine after each level to win more lives, the potions that opened doors to bizarro worlds… what wasn’t to love?

Andrea Vadrucci must have been like me, as you can see in the video above, who’s spiced up the classic soundtrack with some punk-ish drumming. My favorite part is at about 2:05 when he gets to the boss battle music.I can totally picture Princess jumping on the eggs that Bird-O shot out and throwing it at her, and when it hits her she makes that pained sound. That sound brought me such pleasure as a small child.
Also, his double bass pedals are pretty fun. It’s a pretty dorky idea, but it certainly made me smile this morning.

Spore Shipping for Mac in 2008!

Exciting news for those of us who love to play games that take away your social life! Will Wright’s upcoming game Spore, which is coming out “some time” this year, has been announced that it will be released side by side with the PC version. This is a first for computer games, as most Mac gamers have to wait months and sometimes years to play the same games as PC owners. In fact, it looks like EA Games is trying to reconcile this difference by making all of their games drop at the same time.

I’m particularly excited about this because the game looks amazing. I can’t wait to create an amazing looking critter and then DESTROY with it. But I’ve also heard rumors that the game is…. boring… and that’s why it’s been delayed so much. I can’t see how that can even be possible, but maybe it could be monotonous? I dunno, I’m gonna’ camp out for it.

Barack Obama Wins the Iowa Caucus

Games / Life

I’ve been sleeping for most of the day, trying to get rid of this damn cold, so I’ve been a bit cut off since yesterday. I woke up from my nap this afternoon, headed over to DIGG, and saw the news that Obama had won the Iowa Caucuses! This makes me so excited! I’ve been pretty worried about what would happen, if Hillary would really turn out to be the party favorite, if Obama’s support might start to wain. But here he is, the winner.

Hopefully the United States can get it’s shit together and realize that he’s the most even-minded, most genuine candidate we have right now. If he doesn’t win, I’m seriously afraid of what’s going to happen in the world.

On a much lighter note, If you like your elections to be a little more deadly, there’s always Kung-Fu Election, a Mortal Kombat style game where you can kick the shit out of your most hated political figure.

Winter Bunnies by Kozyndan

I was reading Kozyndan’s Livejournal yesterday when I came across this really cute print called Gray Hares (Winter Bunnies). This print continues their love for the fuzzy darlings but this time in a calm, winter-y setting. I really like all of the textures in the print, and the old versions of Kozy and Dan are pretty fun.

Dan also noted that this looks pretty similar to the cover to Pinkerton, which it sort of does, but not really. You can pick it up on their website for an easy $15, making this an awesome X-Mas or Hanukkah present.

While we’re on the subject of winter bunnies, you should also play Winter Bells by Orisinal. Simple, beautiful graphics, with an equally beautiful score behind it.

fl0wer

The creator’s of fl0w, one of the best online games ever made, is coming out with a new game for PS3 called fl0wers. So far there isn’t much info about the game yet, but to me, it looks like you have to support a field of flowers, spreading seeds and increasing your total amount of flowers. I could totally be wrong on this, but that’s my impression.

No matter what it’s sure to be a) fun, just like fl0w is, and b) beautiful, simply because it’s got the power of the PS3 behind it. As soon as I read more about this I’ll be sure to post about it.

Street Fighter IV Teaser

I can’t say that I was ever a huge Street Fighter fan, but I did play it somewhat when I was younger. But I was browsing through someone’s blog this morning (but I can’t remember who’s it was, it was too early!), and saw this awesome teaser for the upcoming Street Fighter IV game.
The inky splatters when they hit or kick at each other are so awesome looking. It reminds me of Capcom’s other game, Okami, which has a very painted feel as well, in fact, you control the game with a brush.

Just be sure to watch the teaser above all the way through, the ending is the bad ass part. If you liked the game at all, you’ll get a big grin from it.

Viva Caligula

I wasted some serious time last night playing Viva Caligula, one of the newest games to come out of the insanity known as Adult Swim.
The point of the game is to kill a ton of people, while collecting all 26 weapons (one for every key on your keyboard) and then you can go to the orgy! There are a ton of crazy ass weapons like an axe, pitchfork, hive of bees, ocarina, necromancer powers and a whole lot more. You also go into a RAMPAGE mode, where you blow people when you hit them. Talk about awesome. Plus the character designs are really great as well.

So hurry up and go waste some time!

Armor Games Releases Portal: The Flash Version

I’ve been secretly geeking out over the new video game Portal. Basically what you do is create these portals that let you teleport different places in an environment. The object of the game is to get through all of the levels, though you really have to think about where to place the portals, and that’s where the challenge comes in. Using your momentum is a huge part of it, as well as thinking really fast at times.

I’ve been so consumed with wanting this game, that I’ve thought about getting an Xbox 360 so I could play it. But now I don’t need to worry anymore! The guys over at Armor Games have created an awesome 2D version of the game! I’ll admit, it’s really not like playing the real thing, but I don’t care, it’s still fun, and definitely challenging. I got a little over half-way through when I decided to stop, but man oh man was it fun.
If you want a way to waste some time, here you go!

Gravity Pods

BLAH! Just what I needed, another addicting little flash game!
This new one is called Gravity Pods, and it’s basically like an old school Atari shooter. All you need to hit the target… except you have to go around barriers, and then there are gravity pods which whip your projectile onto a different course.

I ended up getting to Level 19 on my first try, but it was pretty difficult. Go try it for yourself!
