Little Big Planet

I’ve always been a big video game nerd, but I have yet to make the jump to a “next gen” gaming console like the PS3, Wii or 360. But watching this trailer seriously makes me want to get a PS3. The game is called Little Big Planet, and it gives you the power to completely customize the characters and world around you. In fact, you don’t just customize it, you can totally create it. You’re given hundreds of shapes and textures and you can literally make anything you want.
I could see it being really fun to create all sorts of weird content, but on the other hand, I could see it being kind of a pain in the ass trying to make gigantic levels.

Oh man. Here’s another way to waste your day, Vector TD. A lot like Desktop Tower Defense, this one takes place in more of a futuristic environment, with lots of pretty lasers! Definitely check it out for some midday fun!

Lego Universe

When I was a little kid I used to make mazes for rolly pollys out of Legos. I’d spend half an hour constructing them, making dead ends and giving only one exit out. Except the bugs were assholes and wouldn’t go through it, even though there was always delicious grass at the end, which all bugs love, right?

Anyway, Lego announced that they’re starting a new massively multiplayer online game called ‘Universe’. From the very brief press release, you’ll be able to create your own character and explore a fully Lego-ized world. Whether you can actually build your own buildings and the such remains to be seen. But overall the idea sounds like it could be really fun and offers a lot of promise.

P.S. That is TV on the Radio up there. They were created by minifig, and you can see more here.

Okay, this is something I wouldn’t normally post, just for it’s shear dorkyness, but this made me laugh pretty hard.
The sounds go together with his movements perfectly! hahaha…

Vector Park is some seriously weird shit.
There are three parts, an interactive journey sort of thing, some cute interactive animations, and a game called Levers.
I’m not really sure what it’s all about, but it is pretty rad looking, and Levers, is actually kinda tough, but very fun.
Check it out if you have a couple hours to kill!

The Last Stand

The Last Stand is a totally addicting shooter game. Set in a bleak, 28 Days Later-esque setting, you must survive against hordes of zombies each night, craving to eat your brains! But you can search for other survivors and weapons to help you in your last ditch effort.
It’s a relatively simple idea, but the execution and art make this truly a fun game to play. There are wide variety of weapons to choose from, my favorite being the hunting rifle, and then the shotgun. The are also a ton of different types of zombies, like priests, cops, grandmas, brutish cheerleaders, army guys and even a clown.
Sadly the game is quite short, but it is free, so hopefully they’ll make a sequel to it soon!

Desktop Tower Defense

If you get addicted to silly, mindless games easily, don’t read any farther than this.

Desktop Tower Defense is a simple strategy game. You place different towers onto a board, and try to stop the incoming hoard of tiny critters. It sounds simple enough, but there are a million different ways to play this game. And it’s more addicting than you can imagine.
I’ve been playing for a couple months now, and it’s still as fun as the first time I played.
As of lately, the creators have been doing some regular updating, making it more fun and keeping the game fresh.

So if you want have some time to kill, definitely check this game out.

Graham and I went to the I Am 8-Bit show and it ended up being really great.
When we arrived there was already a line of people waiting outside to get in.
And when we finally got in (about 45 minutes later) it ended up being very crowded and stuffy.
But personal space issues aside, the work as amazing. A huge variety of different kinds of work.
I highly recommend the show if you’re in the area!
