Chinese Translation by M. Ward
A Higher Power by Jens Lekman
Well I’m pretty sure all of my music is going to be recorded correctly for a while, considering I’ll only be listening to music in one place, haha… Last Week in Music was pretty accurate though. At number one again is M. Ward, simply because I loved everything he did for the movie The Go-Getters so I’m trying to relive that feeling. After that is Sigur Rós and their new album Með Suð í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust (which coincidentally I’m listening to as I write this). I’m loving this new album a lot, it seems a lot happier then all of their previous albums.
Then at number three is Jens Lekman, who Iisten to obsessively, every album, all the time. It’s kind of funny that there was only one song different between the number three and two spot, and three songs between the number two and one spot. At four is Ratatat, who’s new album LP3 is also a slice of amazing. I was playing Nintendo over the weekend and listening to them and they sounded so good together. At number five is Belle and Sebastian, followed by Vetiver and DeVotchKa, who both have amazing new albums as well. Finishing up the list is French Kicks, the Norwegian crooner Sondre Lerche, and The Accidental.

A Man Walks Into A Bar by Jens Lekman
American Heart by AA Bondy
Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend. Last Week in Music was a good week with new people popping up, but sadly not all of my music is being copied so this still isn’t a true representation of what I heard, but I need to stop complaining about it, haha…
On the top of the charts was Jens Lekman, who’s songs were definitely fitting with my mood last week, so I listened to all of his albums multiple times. Then came Bon Iver, who’s album was also pretty fitting of my mood as well, very somber and melancholy. I also happened to buy tickets to see Bon Iver at The Troubador in August, and I noticed that he was playing with AA Bondy, who’s album I just recently got, so I listened to that a bunch as well, placing him at number three.
After that came Ratatat with their new album LP3, which is so damn good that their definitely getting their own post. The new album is a lot like the first two, but with a lot more interesting instrumentals thrown in. Then there was French Kicks, Belle and Sebastian, Broken Social Scene, and Death Cab.
Finishing off the list was Air France, who’s new album No Way Down is somewhere between M83 and Sally Shapiro, and overall a pretty fun summer album. Last but not least is the always awesome Yo La Tengo, who always makes things better.

The Swimming Song by Vetiver
The Clockwise Witness by DeVotchKa
Astronaut by Beach House
Last Week in Music was a good week, some new faces on there which makes everything so much more exciting. Starting off the list is Vetiver, who’s new album Thing of the Past just came out today. Lead singer of Vetiver Andy Cabic has chosen 12 of his favorite songs and has created an extremely touching cover album which go all over the place musically, but are all extremely beautiful. I highly recommend this album.
Next up was The Magnetic Fields, who are excellent to listen to no matter what. I tried to listen to all of 69 Love Songs (as well as Holiday and I) but I certainly didn’t make it. Then there was DeVotchKa, who’s newest album, A Mad & Faithful Telling, came out over 2 months ago, but I’m just now getting around to listening to it. I actually like it a lot, I’m pretty sure I like it more than their other albums. I also did a lot more listening to DCFC, mostly Narrow Stairs and The Photo Album.
Grand Archives came in at number 5, and I’ve officially added them to my list of albums to listen to this summer, which I think I’ll share with you guys in early June. I also listened to a lot of Cut Copy in preparation of seeing them live last week. Daft Punk made it onto the last somehow, I’m not really sure how, followed by Stars, Beach House (who I had a sudden urge to listen to) and finishing off with Fleet Foxes.

Last week in music was a good one, but not too much new to report sadly.
The Accidental came up first of course, as I couldn’t stop listening to their album, There Were Wolves. If you didn’t listen to it, click the album name right back there and you can listen to the whole thing online. I promise, they’re damn good.
Then came Josh Ritter at number 2, who I’ve been listening to at least once a day, much to my roommates chagrin. That’s not true, he likes Josh, just not me singing “But he’s the next to last true romantic….” over and over again. After that came Air, Death Cab and French Kicks, followed by Fleet Foxes, Yo La Tengo. At number 8 is Cut Copy, who I’m going to see at the Echoplex tonight and I can’t friggin wait. I’m gonna dance my ass off and take a million photos, so much fun! Finishing the list was Beirut and Black Moth Super Rainbow, though I only listened to those albums twice, so something is definitely wrong. I’m pretty sure I listened to The Grand Archives and the new Wolf Parade album way more than that. Lame.

Things Ain’t Like They Used To Be by The Black Keys
Don’t Forget The Sun by The Explorer’s Club
Well it’s Monday again, and I had planned on posting things this weekend but that didn’t happen, so I’ll try a whole lot more posts in today. But first, let’s talk about LWIM. Does anyone know if I can have two Last.fm clients running on two different computers? I feel like it’s only recording the music on my computer at work. Anyone know anything?
As for what I listened to, Death Cab for Cutie took the top banana with their new album, Narrow Stairs. I really like the album and I’m glad that it turned out much better than the last one. After that was Scar-Jo and her new album Anywhere I Lay My Head, which I’ve been listening to every now and then but I don’t think I’m going to love it in 6 months.
Then came The Notwist, Air, and The New Pornographers, all regular things. But then there was The Black Keys, who’s new album Attack & Release is actually pretty damn good. I had heard that Dangermouse had produced the album and became something of a third member, but it wasn’t until I saw the cover of the album that I had to hear it. While it’s pretty bluesy, it’s really a good album. I still need to listen to it more, but I think it’s gonna be one of the best of the year.
Broadcast and Elliot Smith were tied for 7th, and then came The Explorer’s Club, a Charleston, South Carolina band who’s new album, Freedom Wind, sounds EXACTLY like The Beach Boys. If you disagree with me you’re an idiot. Finishing off the album is the wonderful French Kicks, who’s album I listened to WAY more than two times last week.

Song for Jo by Scarlett Johansson
Time Enough For Rocking When We’re Old by The Magnetic Fields
Yet again all of the music I listened to last week wasn’t recorded, I think it’s because I listen to my iPod at work, but this is a fair guesstimation of what last week was like. Coming out on top was The Magnetic Fields, who’s 69 Love Songs I’ve been listening to quite a lot lately, as well as the new album and I. Their sound is so eclectic that it kind of fits any mood you might be in. After that was The Notwist again with their new album The Devil, You + Me. Almost every song there is really good, but not all of them, though it’s definitely a 9 out of 10 kinda album. Then was French Kicks, Belle & Sebastian and Devendra.
What came as a total surprise to me was how good the new Scarlett Johansson album was! For those who don’t know the album is made up of Tom Waits covers and one song of her own. I’m not a fan of Tom Waits, in fact I hate his voice, he sounds like he’s gargling gravel. But I do really like what she’s done with the songs, her voice sounding somewhere between Trish Keenan of Broadcast and Claudia Gonson of The Magnetic Fields. The album also features contributions from DAVID BOWIE and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. If I haven’t named enough reasons to even make you curious about this record I don’t know what else to say.
Filling out the rest of the list was Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear (when is their new album coming out?!), Jens Lekman, and Ladytron. I also found another new couple records that will probably be making new appearances on the list, so keep an eye out next week.

Gloomy Planets by The Notwist
I’ve really been enjoying the same bands for the last couple weeks, so there weren’t any big changes on what I was listening to. French Kicks came out on top yet again, they seriously have one of the very best albums of the year. I know many of you have checked them out, but if you haven’t yet please do so. Then came The Notwist because of their new album, The Devil, You + Me, which my best Swiss friend FW suggested to me. It’s a brilliant little album, not so gloomy as Neon Golden and a little more experimental as well.
After that was Broadcast, I can’t stop listening to Tender Buttons, then Devendra Banhart, Belle and Sebastian and Cut Copy. Grizzly Bear was next, I’ve been listening to their first record Horn of Plenty a lot because I need more music for them but there’s been no word on when their next album is coming out. The end of the list includes Earlimart, Radiohead, and Elliot Smith, all normal faces on my weekly list.

The Nun’s Littany by The Magnetic Fields
Tender Buttons by Broadcast
Last Week in Music was a nice one, kind of eclectic and all over the place. Fleet Foxes was surprisingly the thing I listened to most, I’m not 100% sure if that’s true though, haha… I listened to a lot of old Modest Mouse last week because I kept thinking about how great they are to listen to in the car while I drive around. Devendra was back on the scene, I forgot how good the newest album was, it’s gonna be another good summer album as well. Broadcast was another odd bird on the list as well. I’ve been listening to Tender Buttons a lot lately for some reason, I think because I never really got into it when it first came out. That’s it for this week, I’m not really inspired by this week’s list, haha…

Blue Ridge Mountains by Fleet Foxes
Creature Fear by Bon Iver
So Last Week in Music turned out to be an AWESOME week in music, with lots of great new stuff that’s going to last me all throughout the summer.
First off was French Kicks, who I still want to write aboue separately, but I keep forgetting cuz’ I’m lame. But I swear I will because I want to spill my guts about how great this album is and how I’m going to be listening to it all summer long.
Then came M83, who’s new album Saturday = Youth has really grown on me quite a bit. I find it’s best to listen to it at night while working, it’s a lot easier to hear the subtlety of it when it’s more quiet in the world. After that was Fleet Foxes whom I absolutely adore. They have a very folk/70’s rock sound, the lead singer sounds a lot like Jim James from My Morning Jacket, but I like Fleet Foxes better I think. This will be another album I listen to all summer long.
Devendra Banhart pops up 4th because I listened to almost every album of his one night and continued on into the next day. He really is one of my favorite musicians. Then there was Belle & Sebastian and Air (who show up almost every week), then Conor Oberst, and Yo La Tengo.
There were two more new editions towards the end of the list though, Los Campesinos! and Bon Iver. Los Campesinos! are seven kids from England singing and shouting at the top of their lungs in the most fun way you can imagine. I can totally see these folks putting on an amazing live show where you scream along to all the words.
The other greatest thing I’ve come across is Bon Iver, who’s real name is Justin Vernon, a dude from Wisconsin who sounds like an acoustic version of Tv on the Radio, or at least that’s the first thing I thought about when I heard him. His music is carried by his amazing voice, and his instrumentals are equally awesome. He will also be played all summer long, so be sure to check him out and the rest of the folks I spoke about, they’re all damn amazing.

Quarantined by Atlas Sound
January by Headlights
Behind The Sea by Panic at the Disco
Last Week in Music was a gooooood week, lots of fun new things headed my way!
First up was Atlas Sound, the side-project of Deerhunter lead singer, Bradford James Cox. Atlas Sound ends up sounding nothing at all like Deerhunter, which is one of the reasons that I actually enjoy it. It’s sort of a shoegazer/electronic affair with Cox’s vocals oddly enough reminding me of Chino Moreno from Deftones on a couple of tracks. If you’re looking for something laid back definitely look this one up.
Then there was Cut Copy who is still being played pretty frequently, their new album definitely hasn’t gotten old yet. After that was one of the most exciting things I’ve come across in the last few months, the newest album from French Kicks. I’m honestly going to write an entire separate post about this, but I’ll just say this is gonna’ be in my Top 5 or 10 or whatever of the year, without a doubt.
After that was Headlights again, their new album Some Racing Some Stopping reminds me of Bishop Allen in the fact that all of the songs sound really different but most of them are really awesome. Then comes another thing I was so excited to find, a live recording of Conor Oberst playing brand new material for his upcoming solo album or whatever it’s gonna be. It sounds really promising so hopefully he releases it over the summer.
Belle & Sebastian was tied with Conor for number 5, then Panic at the Disco, who’s new album is so 60’s/70’s influenced it’s kind of fun. It’s not like the last album at all, which I think proves how creative these guys really are and how long they’re probably going to be around. Dirty on Purpose, The New Pornographers and The Beatles round out the rest of the list. I’ve placed some mp3’s of the songs above so you can hear the best of these artists and you just might like ‘em!
