Moving Day

Life

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I’ll be moving for the next few days so posting might be a little shabby until next week. I’m finally moving out of the shoebox of an apartment I’ve lived in for almost 2 years, and it’s much needed. I’m 6′ 1″-ish and my apartment is a cozy 200 sq. ft…. it’s not cute. I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Puppy Break

Life

Posting is gonna be slow today, we’re shooting puppies in the studio today and I can’t NOT pay attention to them. The puppy in the picture with me is a miniature schnauzer who I’ve named Bert, even though it’s a girl, haha… I might try and post later, even though I have to do more packing and clean more of my apartment, so I’ll be playing it by ear.

Update: Seriosuly, Bert was the cutest puppy ever. If she wasn’t $900 I would have been taking her home tonight. LE SIGH!

God Went Surfing With The Devil

Blogs / Life / Photography

Every now and then I’ll run across things that make me realize just how awesome and special our lives are. It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does all aIl I can think is how I want to soak in those feelings. Reading God Went Surfing With The Devil, a blog by Alex Klein and Bryan Derballa, makes me feel this way.

Alex and Bryan are a couple of surfers making their way through the Middle East, taking photos and describing their time over there. What really hit me about this blog is the beautiful and striking images coupled with the well written descriptions of their day. Sometimes you read it and laugh, other days it’s extremely depressing, sometimes frightening. But their optimistic attitudes shine through some of the scarier events. Their adventure is like a real life City of God, but being blogged instead of filmed.

They’ve only been there 16 days, so there isn’t a ton of stuff to look through, but I’ll definitely be checking this daily from now on.

50 ways to Help the Planet

I wanted to post something in honor of Earth Day today, but I didn’t want to be preach-y, so I’ll just say that you should read Wire & Twine’s 50 Ways to Help the Planet. These are all probably things you’ve heard or known, but it can’t hurt to get a refresher course on what you can do to help. Since I’m moving into a new apartment I was thinking that I could get drying racks for my clothes, which would help the environment in a small way and save me 75 cents a pop.

I’d also suggest checking out NOTCOT’s insanely detailed list of reusable bags, if you can’t find a reusable bag you like there, you must be insane.

The Best Game Ever by Improv Everywhere
April 8, 2008 | Categories:
Life

If you haven’t heard of the folks at Improv Everywhere you might be living in a hole. For 7 years now they’ve been showing up at random places, doing the most random things, just to see how people will react to what they’re doing. Okay that’s kind of vague. For example, a couple years ago a group of them went through a Home Depot walking in slow motion, and more recently they all stopped and froze in the middle of Grand Central Station for about 5 minutes. Imagine how weird it would be to see like 20-40 people doing these sorts of things?

Well I just came across this video where they took it up a notch and helped a bunch of kids have The Best Game Ever. In a nutshell, the Improv Everywhere crew went to a Hermosa Beach little league game in full force, rooting for kids they didn’t know. It gets better and better from there, including an appearance by the Goodyear blimp.

If this doesn’t make you smile and feel pretty good, you do no have a soul.

Kitsune Noir is 1 Year Old!

Life / The Desktop Wallpaper Project

It’s pretty unbelievable, but today is Kitsune Noir’s 1st birthday! I remember last April being excited about the 30 hits this blog would get, mostly from Jeff and I checking it to see if somehow someone came across it. Now that number is 200 times larger, and I’m having so much fun with the blog it’s kind of silly. In honor of +KN’s birthday, I got together with my friends Frank, Jonny, and Mark for an impromptu cupcake baking session! We ended up making some absolutely delicious chocolate cupcakes with purple frosting. They were mostly made by Frank, who in my eyes is like the greatest cook ever, though Mark brought the vegetable oil and Jonny and I worked diligently to make the frosting just the right shade of purple. If there was a soundtrack to last night, it would have been With A Little Help From My Friends by The Beatles.

I was also thinking about it, and I figure what’s a birthday without presents? So I figured that instead of you guys sending me presents, that I would give you all a present for being such awesome readers. I also know how much you all loved Mcbess’ wallpaper, so I’m giving away yet ANOTHER Mcbess wallpaper!

This was actually the first wallpaper Matt did for me, but it accidentally got released early, so I freaked out and asked him if he could make me a new one. Thankfully he was totally awesome about the situation and agreed to do it. But ever since then it really bothered me that this design never got used, seeing as how amazing it is. So here it is, an impromptu Desktop Wallpaper Project entry, but nonetheless still awesome.

So here’s to another year of blogging, hopefully 10 or 20. I really love doing this, I love meeting new people, finding fun new things, and I can’t imagine doing anything else for a really long time. Hopefully over the next year I’ll be coming out with even more cool projects and the good times will continue on.

I’m Back

Good morning everyone!
I hope everyone had a nice week last week! I had a really great trip and it was so nice to be able to see Jeff again. It seems like while I was gone that the blogosphere was kind of quiet, so hopefully I can write up some fun new things to check out. I’m also pretty glad to be back in LA. Going away for a week really made me realize how much I really love Los Angeles. Also, tomorrow is kind of a big day, so I’ll try and get some fun things together for this event! Now onto blogging!

Kitsune Noir is Migrating
March 26, 2008 | Categories:
Life

So it’s official, Kitsune Noir has outgrown it’s britches. Over the last year Kitsune Noir has done some serious growing, going from one of those random blogs out in the web to being in the top 8,000 of all of ‘em. Because of this, the server I’m on currently is starting to prove rather… unreliable. So I’m now in the process of moving to a Media Temple server, which means the reliability of the site will pretty much never come into question. It also means things will load faster, and everyone should be happy.

But over the next few days, things might be a little screwy, so I just wanted to warn everyone. Come Monday, everything should be beautiful and we can put this silly incident behind us. Thanks again for everyone for their amazing support and friendship, without all of you readers this wouldn’t be half as fun.

Florida Is Wet

Life

Hello everyone.
I’m totally exhausted at the moment, the last two days have gone by really fast so far, but have been really fun. In the last 2 days though, I’ve eaten alligator, had Nicaraguan and Mediterranean food, and spent an entire day on a boat. These are pretty good milestones for me.

If you’re interested, check out my Tumblr for a bunch of photos of what’s happened so far. And as sort of a sidenote, the Desktop Wallpaper Project will go on as usual, so be sure to come back on Wednesday for sure. As for tomorrow, I’m headed out to the Everglades, so I’m bringing my camera and taking a ton of pictures, so that could be fun.

Kitsune Noir Goes To Florida
March 18, 2008 | Categories:
Life

This Friday night I’m flying out to Florida to spend some time with Jeff, relax, and get a tan! Because of my leisure time, posting will obviously be a little slow next week, but I think I’m going to keep my Tumblr filled with photos like I did last weekend, I really enjoyed doing that.

The thing is, I’ve never been to Florida, so I want to get suggestions from all you awesome readers who might know a couple places I should check out. I’ll be staying in Miami, but I’ll be visiting the Keys and South beach and… well those are the only places I really know of, haha. I’ve got the Wallpaper City Guide for Miami, so that should help somewhat, but I want to know about all the cool, artsy, hipster places and yummy restaurants to eat at! Rad art shows would also be fun, as well as parties or anything else exciting going on.

Fill the comments with lots of tips!
