This week’s Mixcast is a fun one, filled with songs to remind you of the warmth of spring and summer. These songs are all quite upbeat and poppy and should make you feel happy overall. Of course I had to end the mix with a couple of more quiet songs, but they still remind me of summer, especially when it’s late and the sun is just starting to set.

If you’d like to suggest a theme for next week feel free to do so in the comments, I think this works out pretty well. Also keep in mind that next week is 30, so maybe we can work that in somehow…? Put on those thinkin’ caps and let me know your ideas.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Meet Me in the Garden by Dent May
Here Comes The Sun Again by M.Ward
Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles
Foolin’ by Devendra Banhart
Holiday by Vampire Weekend
Like Castanets by Bishop Allen
The Swimming Song by Vetiver
Oh, Magnolia Tree by Ducktails
Kay-Ray-Ku-Ku-Ko-Kex by Múm
A Higher Power by Jens Lekman
The Line by Wave Machines
Oklahoma, U.S.A. by Yo La tengo
Saturday by The Clientele

First off I wanted to say sorry for not releasing a Mixcast last week. Like I’ve said here and there, real life got in the way, and I’m trying my hardest to stay consistent with everything. That said, this week’s Mixcast is a diverse mix of new and not-so-new stuff and I think you’ll like what you hear.

I’d also like to hear your suggestions on a theme next week in the comments. If you can, please refrain from asking for a mix full of covers. Yes I know everyone loves these but I find them kind of boring, sorry! Anyhow, suggest away.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Change of Time by Josh Ritter
Sun by Caribou
Finn Bikkjen! by Casiokids

Gadzooks I can’t believe it’s already Friday. I say this every week but I really mean it this week. Anyhow, I’ve got a really great Mixcast for you this week. It’s an eclectic mix of new and old stuff but there’s not really a main theme or anything. Funny enough they’re kind of related to love, so you could say it’s in the ballpark of a love mix, even though it wasn’t purposeful.

I also wanted to mention that the random, weird artwork this week was inspired by this image, which I found randomly. Just something about the colors and layout that really inspired me. I hope you like the mix and check back next week for a new one.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Heaven’s On Fire by The Radio Dept.
Singing Arc (While The Fire Dies Version) by Seabear
The Beautiful Young Crew by Lawrence Arabia
Camera Talk by Local Natives
If She Wants Me by Belle & Sebastian
A Time For Emily by The Elected
Love’s Been Good To Me by Johnny Cash
A Chicken With It’s Head Cut Off by The Magnetic Fields
Sleep Tonight by Stars
Occident by Joanna Newsom
Rosebud by Ryan Adams & The Cardinals
Rollin Back by My Morning Jacket

For this week’s Mixcast I didn’t really have any sort of theme, it’s pretty just what I’ve been listening to lately. It definitely has an undertone of electronic music and it’s probably peppier than most things I do. There also isn’t a lot of singing on this one, it’s mostly good beats.

I do think though that there’s a pretty good mix of really popular artists mixed with rather unknowns, so hopefully you can find some new tunes on this as well. A couple notes, I did narrate this one and I may have made myself laugh a couple times. This is probably due to the fact that I’m totally exhausted right now. The second thing is that I’ve put the track listing in the lyrics part of the metadata. I’ve had a few people ask for it, so there you go. I hope you enjoy this mix, I think it turned out really well, kind of surprisingly so.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Giant Squid by RjD2
Hypertexan by Ben Benjamin
Plastic People by Four Tet
Pleasant Experience by Small Black
7 by Collections of Colonies of Bees
Nitetime Rainbows by A Sunny Day in Glasgow
Alley Cats by Hot Chip
James’ Second Haircut by Caribou
All Dried Up by Phantogram
The Screens by Atlas Sound
Dawn Chorus by Boards of Canada

Since Sunday is Valentine’s Day I thought it was appropriate to create a Mixcast dedicated to love. I’m lucky enough to find myself with someone special this year, so it definitely has a positive slant to it. If I was single this would be probably be an eff’ love mix, but maybe I’ll do that next year no matter what circumstance I find myself in, just to balance things out.

These are some of my favorite lovey songs and I think they work pretty well together. I opted for another mini-mix because you shouldn’t have to listen to my voice when you’re trying to makeout with your potential spouse/date/lover/desperate friend. I hope you enjoy it and remember that love is all you need.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
More Adventurous by Rilo Kiley
First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes
Postcards From Italy by Beirut
God Only Knows by The Beach Boys
The Luckiest by Ben Folds
Center Of Gravity by Yo La Tengo
In My Life by The Beatles

I can’t believe it’s already Friday. This week moved by so quickly and so many great/busy things happened that it flew by. Thankfully I have a couple of huge things to show for it, which hopefully in the next couple months I’ll be able to share.

For this week’s Mixcast I decided to go with a mini-mix format again, so you’ve got a hair over 40 minutes of music to listen to. What’s the theme you ask? Icelandic and Japanese musicians with a Swede and a Belgian thrown in for good measure. This is honestly what I’ve been listening to for the past week or so anyhow, they just happen to fall into those two main groups rather well.

The artwork was inspired by their countries, sorta, so I just went with simplicity. The woodgrain and pinkish red color remind me of Japan while the pattern is something that you might see on a sweater in Iceland… sound good?

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Carry Me Up To Smell Pine by Sin Fang Bous
Running Mates by The Go Find
Brand New Season by Cornelius
Við Spilum Endalaust by Sigur Rós
If It Is Growing by Fanfarlo
In The Park by Teruyuki Nobuchika
Cat Piano by Seabear
Til Eru Fr by Beni Hemm Hemm
I Hate Mornin by Sugar Plant
Will The Summer Make Good For by Múm
Come March by Takagi Masakatsu

It’s Friday, it’s almost the weekend, and here’s a delicious Mixcast to wash your cares away. This week’s Mixcast is based around the theme of women’s names. I think most rock stars end up going through break ups or fall desperately in love so women’s names tend to be quite prevalent in music. Not that there are only male singers on this album.

For the album artwork I hunted through my old National Geographic’s and found as many odd images as I could, putting together a diverse collage of woman-ness. The back is my favorite though and I didn’t have to do anything to it, that’s exactly how it was.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Jolene by Cake
Griselda by Yo La Tengo
Vanessa From Queens by Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks
Ashley by The Dodos
Tila and I by Harlem
Dear Jennifer by The Clientele
Selfish Jean by Travis
Oh Christine by The Cave Singers
Pretty Mary K by Elliott Smith
Carey by Joni Mitchell
Savannah Smiles by Okkervil River
Anna by Taken by Trees
Shirin by Jens Lekman
Ada by The National
Goodnight Laura by Spoon

For this week’s Mixcast I asked my Twitter friends for theme suggestions, as my brain wasn’t working properly at the time. I got a lot off great responses (the most popular was cover songs) but one caught my creativity the most. It was from @iptydafu who suggested: “Build to Look Back” Love lost to the future.”

I don’t exactly know what they meant by that, but I interpreted it as man who’s lost the woman he loves in a time-traveling accident. I know, I’m weird. So what became of that was a tripped out love album filled with space-y sounding jams and nods to the future. There are fast, guitar driven songs, there are quiet, thoughtful ones, and pretty much everything in between. Some songs were used in the background as filler, some aren’t even full songs, and most of the time you probably won’t even know when a song transitions from one to another.

I should also mention this is a mini-mix. It’s 35 minutes of straight music, no talking, I didn’t want to ruin the flow of it all. I think one of my favorite parts is the transition between Dert Is Full of Love and A Guitar and a Heart, when I throw in a random ass sample that some of you may recognize. I was even able to throw in some Postal Service, which I never thought I’d be able to do, but I think it finishes things off nicely.

And for those who are curious, the covers are made up of the following:
- A woman using a loom.
- Coral.
- Marble quarry.
- Sea creature.

I think you’ll really enjoy this mixtape, it definitely has a little something for everyone.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Global (Heart) Warming by Montag
You Can’t Go Home Again by DJ Shadow
She’s The One by Beta Band
Dert Is Full of Love by Dert
A Guitar and a Heart by M83
Spooked by Big Spider’s Back
Evil by The Flaming Lups
Solastalgia by Zero 7
Yours Truly, 2095 by The Silent League
A Little Longing Goes Away by The Books
Ephemera by Delphic
Section 20 (We’re Heavy Together) by The Polyphonic Spree

Last week we took a look into the future, at the new music coming out in 2010. This week we’re going back to the 90’s. I’ve put together a collection of my favorite one-hit wonders from the 90’s, the things that songs that never really propelled bands to stardom but found a tender a place in my heart. I tried to pick the more obscure bands and songs, so hopefully this brings back some memories for you.

For the cover art I tried to recreate the Saved By The Bell logo with a Kitsune Noir spin. I hand drew the type and then traced it all out in (my enemy) Illustrator then put it all together in Photoshop. It’s insane just how janky that title is. I know it looks like I did a shitty job but go look at the original and you’ll see just how horribly designed it is.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Female of the Species by Space
In The Meantime by Spacehog
I Could Never Be Your Woman by White Town
Desperately Wanting by Better Than Ezra
Breakfast At Tiffany’s by Deep Blue Something
Bound for the Floor by Local H
Super Bon Bon by Soul Coughing
Radiation Vibe by Fountains of Wayne
Possum Kingdom by The Toadies
Sucked Out by Superdrag
Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand by Primitive Radio Gods
Lady, Your Roof Brings Me Down by Scott Weiland

Happy New Year! It’s 2010 so I thought I’d share some brand new, fresh outta’ the oven music with you. All of the songs on this week’s Mixcast come from artists who have brand new albums coming out in 2010… okay, except Charlotte Gainsbourg. I totally fucked up and thought her album came out in 2010 and I didn’t realize that it came out last December until I was midway through recording. It’s still a really great song, so just enjoy it!

This year should be a great year for music if the following list is any kind of indication. Is there anything else coming out that you’re excited for? Off the top of my head I can think of Arcade Fire and The Books.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Boy Lilikoi by Jónsi
Lewis Takes Off His Shirt by Owen Pallett
Love Me Girl by Yeasayer
Thanks Vision by Toro Y Moi
Psyche by Massive Attack
Written In Reverse by Spoon
Lover of Mine by Beach House
Mongrel Heart by Broken Bells
Taxi Cab by Vampire Weekend
La Collectionneue by Charlotte Gainsbourg
Don’t Call Me Uncle by Adam Green
Fortune by Midlake

Update: Mediafire link has been updated and is working again.
