The Desktop Wallpaper Project: SPACETIME Competition Winners
October 7, 2009 // SPACETIME + The Desktop Wallpaper Project

Well, there were a ton of great entries, but only three could make the cut. In the end, I chose the three wallpapers that had the most creativity, originality, and that just made me smile. The three entries above fit all of those criteria very well, and I’m proud to announce them the winners of the SPACETIME Wallpaper Competition.

First off let’s start with the grand prize winner, Simon Lindenthaler. Simon’s wallpaper was based on the song Space Robot Five by Brave Saint Saturn and features this awesome little robot floating along in his own little space time bubble, looking a bit damaged. I feel like this one has a lot of character, and Simon obviously put a lot of work into this, which I really respect him for. Congrats Simon, you’ll be getting the deluxe SPACETIME pack with wall decals, a t-shirt and a wallet!

After that were our two runners up, Belinda Chen and Aaron DeYoe. These two won for a very similar reason… they both made me laugh. Belinda’s design is so weird and funky, like it was inspired by the 70’s Star Trek, with a bit of DIY asteroids thrown in. Overall I think it’s offbeat and quite clever, and I was thrilled with it immediately.

Our other runner up Aaron DeYoe was picked for his simplicity and restraint, while still being clever. The hand-drawn Futura with the lightning bolt behind it and the orange colored pencil background is simple, and I really like that it’s not trying too hard. Also if you notice there’s a tiny smudge in the bottom left corner… it says “Thyme” with a little doodle of some thyme. Dorky and hysterical.

I want to give a huge thanks to all the artists and designers who entered. The turnout was really amazing this time around and I’m actually pretty stoked to do another contest, so keep an eye out for more of these. Next week there’s going to be a VERY rad wallpaper, and I’m so stoked to show you, so be sure to check back in.

Kitsune Noir Mixcast / No.009 – SPACETIME Edition

Kitsune Noir Mixcast / No. 009

Hey there, sorry for the tardy Mixcast this week. I was having quite a bit of difficulty figuring out if this should be a Mixcast or a Mixtape, and in the end the Mixcast won. This started feeling a little too rushed and not quite complete enough for a Mixtape, but never fear, there will be a new Mixtape next week to make up for it.

This week’s Mixcast is inspired by SPACETIME, and such there are all kinds of space-y sounding and related songs on here. I think there are some really cool parts on this, some of these just mixed together really well and I enjoyed listening to it while I was cruising around on my bike this afternoon. I hope you enjoy it!

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Navigate Colours by These New Puritans
International Space Station by Figurine
Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi
I Am Citizen Insane by Radiohead
Into The Galaxy by Midnight Juggernauts
23 Lies by Death in Vegas
You Must Wake by Broadcast
Space Walk by Lemon Jelly
The State We’re In by The Chemical Brothers
Reprise by Doves
Vein of Stars by Flaming Lips
Space Oddity by The Langley Schools Music Project

SPACETIME Wallpaper Competition
September 25, 2009 // SPACETIME + The Desktop Wallpaper Project

As many of you saw the other day, I teamed up with the wonderful folks over at Poketo on a project called SPACETIME. We worked with Cody Hudson, Mike Perry, Damien Correll and Andy Miller on a line of wall decals, wallets and t-shirts and they came out amazing.

So I wanted to give you the chance to win some of these goodies. But instead of just giving them away, I’m going to make you work for it, so here’s the deal: I want you to create a SPACETIME inspired desktop wallpaper. You can do anything you like, just as long as it seems space-y or time-y. There’s going to be 1 Grand Prize winner, who will win one set of wall decals, the t-shirt of your choice and the wallet of your choice. There will also be 2 runners who will get to choose a wallet of their liking.

Please send all submissions to thefoxisblack@gmail.com with the subjecy “SPACETIME Wallpaper Competition”. All submissions should be sent as JPGs and sized to 1920px x 1200px. Failure to do so may disqualify you, unless your wallpaper is totally rad.

The deadline for the project is October 6th, which is a little under two weeks, and the winners will be announced on October 7th, when their wallpapers will be released as a part of the Desktop Wallpaper Project for that week. Sound good?

Kitsune Noir + Poketo Present The SPACETIME Collection
September 23, 2009 // SPACETIME

Today I’m extremely happy to announce a brand new project from Kitsune Noir and Poketo called SPACETIME, a collection of wall decals, wallets and t-shirts from artists Cody Hudson, Mike Perry, Damien Correll and Andy Miller. Almost 6 months ago to the day Poketo asked me if I’d be interested in curating a line of products with them, and being such a huge fan of their previous work, I of course said yes!

So I set to work trying to come up with a theme, something that would be open enough to let the artists work freely but still have some sort of constraints to work in. I decided on SPACETIME simply because I though it was a cool phrase, and I thought that having artists create around the concepts of space and time could be interesting.

From there I chose a ton of my favorite artists, then narrowed it down with Ted and Angie from Poketo to our favorite four: Cody Hudson, Mike Perry, Damien Correll and Andy Miller. If you’re a regular reader, you know I post about these guys a lot, and that’s because I’ve been a fan of their respective works for a long time, so getting to work with them on this was pretty awesome.

We have three products from each artist available. First there’s a wall cling, which is actually a 4 pack, and you get a set of clings or stickers from each artist. As you can see from the photos above, it gives you quite a bit of flexibility to create your own little galaxy. Next up is a wallet which comes with custom designs on each side. Last is a t-shirt with yet another different graphic on it, and all of them look really great.

You can click here to visit the SPACETIME shop and pick up your own goodies.

I hope you enjoy what we’ve created. This is only the start of interesting and fun products from Kitsune Noir, so be ready!

The Desktop Wallpaper Project: SPACETIME Special Edition
September 23, 2009 // SPACETIME + The Desktop Wallpaper Project

Well it’s Wednesday as well, so this week we have special edition SPACETIME wallpapers from the SPACETIME artists, Cody Hudson, Mike Perry, Damien Correll and Andy Miller. Of the four only Cody hasn’t created a wallpaper for the DWP before, but the other guys have and it’s awesome to get yet another awesome desktop from them.

The desktop wallpapers this week were images used as a part of the SPACETIME Collection, so no only can you stick/wear/stow these designs, you can have them up on your computer. And depending upon your style, you can go simple with either Cody or Mike’s designs, or be a little more adventurous with Damien or Andy’s vibrant wallpapers.

There are even more amazing wallpaper coming up in the next couple months, so be sure to check back next week for more digital goodies!
