If You Could Collaborate by Michael Moloney & John Hooper
February 25, 2010 // Design

If You Could Collaborate is a British exhibition who’s goal is to “provide a platform for the finest creatives from all over the world to question their conventional working methods and outcomes. The contributors have been challenged to produce something a little unexpected, by working with a partner of their choosing from any discipline, profession or background.”

So what Michael Moloney, a filmmaker, and John Hooper, a photographer, decided to do was to combine their talents into one, creating a 4 minute video which documents 24 hours on a hill in the Great Langdale area of The Lake District. It’s a long beautiful shot that’s made even more beautiful by the flashes and strobes of light that dot the hills during the night time parts.

It’s funny though, at first I thought the video was moving too slowly, but then suddenly it was done and over with and I wanted more. Did you get that feeling at all?

Vanessa Bruno Spring/Summer 2010 Video
February 25, 2010 // Clothing

Continuing the fashion trend started by the previous video I give you the cinematic version of Vanessa Bruno’s spring/summer 2010 collection. Ms. Bruno is a French fashion designer and this video is amazing, and most of all, very French feeling. You’ve got the oddly beautiful girl dancing around in an old apartment, then you’ve got the sad, middle part with the Serge Gainsbourg/Jane Birkin sort of vibe and then ending with a really fun Ryan McGinley feeling piece. I can’t say I’m a very good judge of whether or not the clothes are cute, but the video definitely works as a great promotional piece.

Johansson/Heidi Nilausen Promo Video
February 24, 2010 // Clothing + Music + Music Video + Video

It’s Thursday so I’m gonna be throwing a ton of video content your way for the majority of the day, but we’re gonna start off with a music video/fashion showcase. The music is by a Swedish artist named Johansson while the clothing was created by Heidi Nilausen and combined they’ve got something really great going on.

The video was directed by Philippe Tempelman and Kian Zubicky and it’s beautifully shot
by photographer Axel Lindahl, who definitely gives it it’s overall mood. To me the video looks like something Karin Andersson of The Knife would do if she made a clothing line. IT’s mysterious and moody and to be honest totally fun. I think not only is the video beautiful but the song is pretty rad as well, I hope I get to hear more from this Johansson fella’.

The Desktop Wallpaper Project by Atherton Lin
February 24, 2010 // The Desktop Wallpaper Project

Hello, I hope you’re having a good Wednesday. It’s kind of gloomy here in Los Angeles today so I wanted to put up a wallpaper that might brighten your day a bit. It comes from the amazing art couple of Atherton Lin, which is made up of Jamie Atherton and Jeremy Lin. You might remember that I posted their calendar about a month ago? They got in touch with me so I thought that I should ask them to do a wallpaper since I love their style so much.

And what they sent me doesn’t disappoint. It’s one of the most idyllic little scenes I’ve ever seen. Looking at this wallpaper makes me wish that I could be there watching the ships sailing and the fog floating by. It kind of reminds of something between a Wes Anderson and a Hayao Miyazaki film, maybe if they teamed up together. I hope you like it and I hope it brings some joy to your desktop.

Fancy, New Blogs Round-Up
February 24, 2010 // Blogs + Design

In the past couple weeks I’ve come across a few new blogs that I’ve been enjoying, so I thought I’d share them and see what you think. They’re mostly design related, I think more in the product realm than anything, but I think these folks have a great start to what they’re doing.

1) Black Harbor – I was introduced to Black Harbor through one of it’s members Mike and immediately I was impressed by it’s visual design. It feels really polished and well put together, which makes me want to dive deeper. Mike describes the site as a “Art/Design online magazine” and I’m totally digging it.

2) Pratt // Liam Jeff Rubino – Through my stat counter I can see who’s linking to me and where my hits are coming from, and I noticed that Liam’s blog had linked to me, so I checking it out. I’m not really sure what his story is, all that I’ve sussed out is that he goes to Pratt and he’s got a great eye for design. I’m not usually a fan of Tumblr blogs but this guy knows his art and product design, so scrolling through his site is quite enlightening. Plus I love the general aesthetic with the wood background and big white tiles, it really sets the site off.

3) FRESH01 – This was another blog that randomly linked to me that I lurked to. It’s run by a fellow named Cobus who’s programmed an absolutely beautiful experience. What’s really brilliant about his blog is when you scroll down the two blue dots change depending upon where you are on the site. If you scroll past a photo post you get the date in the left circle and a polaroid shape in the right circle. It’s something you need to experience for yourself, so definitely check this one if you’re a UX dork.

4) Werd – This site was sent to me by it’s owner Marc and I feel like he’s got a really good vibe going on with Werd. It reminds me of Uncrate a bit and feels very masculine to me with it’s choice of colors, fonts and tone.

Definitely visit all of these folks and let me know what you think in the comments. I’m sure all of these blogs would love to hear positive feedback, so if you’re going to be critical at least do it respectfully.
