This week’s Mixcast is a fun one, filled with songs to remind you of the warmth of spring and summer. These songs are all quite upbeat and poppy and should make you feel happy overall. Of course I had to end the mix with a couple of more quiet songs, but they still remind me of summer, especially when it’s late and the sun is just starting to set.

If you’d like to suggest a theme for next week feel free to do so in the comments, I think this works out pretty well. Also keep in mind that next week is 30, so maybe we can work that in somehow…? Put on those thinkin’ caps and let me know your ideas.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
Meet Me in the Garden by Dent May
Here Comes The Sun Again by M.Ward
Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles
Foolin’ by Devendra Banhart
Holiday by Vampire Weekend
Like Castanets by Bishop Allen
The Swimming Song by Vetiver
Oh, Magnolia Tree by Ducktails
Kay-Ray-Ku-Ku-Ko-Kex by Múm
A Higher Power by Jens Lekman
The Line by Wave Machines
Oklahoma, U.S.A. by Yo La tengo
Saturday by The Clientele

  1. Bobby, you’ve outdone yourself. This may be my favorite mixcast thus far. Really making me crave the summer.

  2. Hi Bobby, love the Mixcasts. However, I can’t listen to them at work because downloads from share sites are blocked. Is it possible to add a streaming link or playable MP3 link into your post for the few (I hope) fans that can’t enjoy your Friday mixcasts?

  8. A perfect welcoming for the spring and summer ahead. About the 30th mixcast….what about turning 30??? Now I’m 30 years old and looking back I used to hear very bad music when I was younger and immature..love the artwork by the way

  9. This is great.

“The Swimming Song” by Vetiver is actually a cover of Loudon Wainwright III (Rufus’ Dad!). And it is just soooooooo good.

  10. @Charlie: I said that!

  11. @Bobby: Yes! I caught that later on. I actually hadn’t heard the Vetiver covers record, so when it came on I was so surprised to hear the cover. Out of excitement, posted the comment, and then the set came to a close, and noticed the credit. :-)

    Great mix!

  12. hell yes Dent May! this mix is great.

I dunno, a mix of songs recorded when the artist was 30/in their 30s? for the most awkward mix ever, of course.

  13. @Andrew – Doing something like that is difficult because it eats into my bandwidth heavily. Having thousands of people download a 100MB file is a huge toll, thus the reason I go with MediaFire in the first place. I’ll see if it’s something I can do in the future.

  15. Loves it!
What about one cliche song from each year for the past 30 years (can’t seem to come up with an un-confusing way to phrase that…)

  17. I’m still on drowning … in connection with the no. “30″ it could be:

Drowning 30 feet below sea level

  18. How about a nautical theme ?? i’m chartering a boat on the Whitsundays with some friends over Easter and would love to have an appropriately themed mixcast to show off…

  19. a mixcast of just pure fun. (maybe based around ‘cigarettes and chocolate milk’ by mr wainwright)… i’ve been looking for some tunes to smile along with. it doesn’t have to be for next week, but something to keep in mind maybe?

  20. Great mixcast, again! What about a slight theme change from 30 to dirty? Might be cool to mix some dirty songs?

  21. Favorite mixcast for sure. The design reminds me of Marcus Young’s Everyday Poetry For City Sidewalk in St. Paul. >> http://www.stpaul.gov/index.aspx?NID=2820

  23. This mixcast is sweetness.

I may be late for adding a suggestion, but I’ve got two. #1. 30 = XXX in Roman numerals = a dirty thirty mix. And #2 is really just riding on the coattails of health care reform and the fact that it’s going to be nice out soon. So #2 is Health & Exercise.

  24. a perfect mixture of new vibes and the old tribes to brighten my britches! Thanks so much!

  25. I don’t know that 30 would necessarily be the one to do this for, but maybe just celebratory songs? I’m thinking “The Good Times Are Killing Me” by Modest Mouse and “Celebration Guns” by Stars.
