MPRIES / The Best Supermarkets in the World
Posted: May 25, 2007

The MPRIES in Sarrasine
American supermarkets take notice! This is what a supermarket SHOULD look like!
MPRIES is a family owned Austrian supermarket chain that employs up and coming architects to design the most amazing supermarkets I think I’ve ever seen. They use interesting materials, exciting and unique lighting, and each store has it’s own site specific design. Attention to detail is seen not only in the outside but the inside as well, giving customers an extremely comfortable environment to shop in. I want to go to Austria to check all of these out now! The closest thing we have to this in America would be Whole Foods.
Since MPRIES’ website is all in German, I’ve taken all of the cool pictures of nearly EVERY store they have to show everyone really how cool these stores are! You should be extremely jealous you don’t have one of these close to you!

Neil Poulton’s Firewire Speakers
Posted: May 24, 2007

Small and compact, and supposedly a great sound, these speakers designed by Neil Poulton are simple and beautiful. They look like they should be made by Muji.
Grab them over at A + R for $120 for the pair.

World’s First 24-bit OLED
Posted: May 24, 2007

Sony released pictures of a new OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) display that can show 16.7 MILLION colors, as opposed to the next closest display, which could only do 262,000. It’s all on a flexible piece of plastic that’s only 0.3mm thick.
This is seriously the future right here. Everything you’ve ever seen in sci-fi about something like this will be true.
You’re going to read your digital subscription of the New York Times on this stuff. Computers monitors will be as thin as magazines, and will roll up into a tube that fits in your monitor. Then haptic technology will come into it and you’ll be able to have touch screen capabilities.
I’m a firm believer in the, ‘If you can dream it, it can happen”, idea.

Nathan Fox
Posted: May 24, 2007

For some reason I decided to pick probably the most ridiculous image to showcase Nathan Fox’s art, but whatever, I think it’s funny. Nathan Fox does some hot stuff, and he’s kinda like a bizarro version of Paul Pope.I don’t think he’s biting Mr. Pope’s style, they just happen to have the same sensibilities in art… like drawing really well.
Nathan Fox’s use of color is also EXTREMELY amazing, like the wonderful piece above from the Will There Ever Be A Rainbow? show. He also does lots of 3D artwork, like the kind that needs the special glasses. Just got check out his site, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

2K T-shirts Online Store
Posted: May 23, 2007

I’ve loved 2K T-shirts for basically ever. They always fit really well, are made of thick cotton, and the designs on them are always by the best illustrators and designers in the game.
BUT WHEN DID THEY START LETTING PEOPLE ORDER ONLINE?!
I wish I had known this before tonight. I would be surrounded by thousands of wonderful t-shirts! And completely broke as well, but whatever… I love t-shirts so hard.
The two tees up there are a new one from Geoff McFetridge on the left, and a kitty one by Shynola. I laughed really, really hard at that cat one for some reason.
Go buy lots of t-shirts now!

Zuse Toaster by Inseq Design
Posted: May 23, 2007
Why the hell aren’t there more products like this in the world?!
Inseq Design has hit the nail on the head with this one. Zuse is a toaster that prints/burns images onto your bread! While this isn’t idea isn’t that new, the design of it is a stroke of genius. I love that it hangs on the wall, giving you more space on your countertops, and the form is compact and shiny like all good appliances should be.
The Zuse comes preloaded with a bunch of different images that print/burn in a random order, adding to the fun! haha…

Brodeo at the New Image Art Gallery
Posted: May 23, 2007

The New Image Art Gallery is having a show starting on June 1st called ‘Brodeo’, which features some really great artists. One of my absolute favorites, Evan Hecox will have some work there, after kinda’ laying low for a while, along with the very rad Cody Hudson and Kelsey Brookes, who I was able to see at that ‘Want 2B Square” show. Also in attendance will be Skullphone, Bast, The Date Farmers, David Ellis, Eddie Martinez, and Eric White.
