I really love X-mas. Notice how I spelled it there?
I don’t celebrate Christmas because I’m not a Christian, and I don’t believe in Jesus and all that stuff, not that there’s anything wrong with it. But because I don’t, I’ve decided that I celebrate X-mas, a time for giving presents and decorating trees and being with the people you love.

But my boyfriend Jeff is Jewish. So my desire for a X-mas trees clashes somewhat with his menorah. Or at least he thinks so. He wants us to celebrate only Hannukah, but there’s no way in hell I’m giving up my stockings and X-mas lights. But I think I may have found a happy medium for us.

Designer Sahar Bastry has come up with the Tree Menorah, a cross between everyone’s favorite holidays. I couldn’t find this on her site anywhere (maybe I’m blind?) but I would totally love to get one of these. Although, it would just end up on a table next to a giant, well-decorated X-mas tree, haha…

   (I think maybe if you decorated your tree with characters from The Office Quann would be on board. OH MY GOD, do you think you can get ornaments that are characters from The Office? I am so looking for this now.)

   That’s definitely the best way to get my way! I’ll paint little portraits of all the office characters onto bulbs!

   Maybe even make a burnt cheese pita or a Meredith on the hood of Micahel’s car ornament.

5. I have a similar holiday called Crimmas that’s all about gifts and family, because I haven’t been to Temple since I was 3 and I’ve never been to a church service. But I do love presents. We decorate our date palm with lights and I make caramel corn. But the ambience is just an excuse to get presents. Joyous Crimmas to you all.

12. If my grandmother were here, she would slap your fingers with a ruler (or some other mildly violent disciplinary act) and tell you that this Menorah is CLEARLY not kosher for Hannukah because the candles should all be on the same level except for the Shammash.

    Also, the chi-rho, (P with an X on the stem) is an abbreviated form of the latter (the first two letters).

    So, in reference to your remark about your usage of the X, please consider the origins.

    And finally, I don’t think you should be worried about being mistaken for or celebrating with a Christian. There isn’t much that is Christian about Christmas. There is no Christ to be taken out of it, He is not there.

15. Are you saying that christmas is a religious holiday. We always celebrate it as one of the Secular Candy Holidays, along with Halloween, Valentines day and the sunday following the full moon after the vernal equinox.

16. Please, do call it «Youle», «Yule», «Jol», ­«Jul» or whatever if you want to take the christ out.

    Her i Norway «christmas» is still called «Jol» from old times. I don’t like people calling Jol an christian holiday. It’s not. It’s part of our culture and was tried loaded with christian content in order to make the people embrace christianity. But I’m glad it’s still more of a feast (and part of culture) and less of a religious thing; that’s how it should be.

    In Harry Potter they called the christmas ball, «the yule ball». So there should be no problem using it in english! :D
